A Testament

During the course of our life here, our blue gates have seen around 4500 students come and go. Some stay for years, some for a shorter period of time. Adel was a student who came and stayed for many years.
Displaced from Shingal, his exceptionally poor family decided to make every effort not to live inside the camp, but to rent a small house in the village with the hopes that the children would find better education in the village, and although beginning again from zero, with no material possession, they at least would have a future. Adel found us and whether summer or winter would walk from the village to the camp to join Salam in his art classes, and just to come and paint. He also connected with Evan who taught photography, the camera becoming an integral part of him.
Adel always stood out from other students. Quiet, one who looked, one who saw much, speaking little. His soul was creative, and he wanted to paint to tell the story of his people, at that time, a story of suffering.
He still lives in the village and is close to Salam, who gives him ideas for his new position as art teacher in another NGO. (Sadly he has just lost his job which was funded by US Aid)
He sent us this wonderful letter this week, one which speaks volumes about the nobility and integrity of his character. The one who stopped to say, Thank You.

"To the esteemed Ms. Lisa,
I hope this message finds you well.
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for everything you have done for me during my time at the organisation. Your continuous support and encouragement have had a profound impact on my artistic and professional journey.
Through the programs and courses provided by Springs of Hope, I was able to enhance my skills in both drawing and photography. This development played a significant role in helping me achieve one of my greatest goals, enrolling at the University of Mosul, Faculty of Fine Arts, where I now continue my academic journey with greater confidence, thanks to the solid foundation I built under your guidance.
The impact of this organisation extended beyond my academic growth. The experience and knowledge I gained while working with you have also enhanced my skills as a photographer at the university, allowing me to capture important moments with more professionalism and creativity. The opportunities I received not only enriched my abilities but also strengthened my self - confidence and belief in my potential - something I will always be grateful for.
Once again I sincerely thank you for all the support and guidance you have given me. I look forward to continuing my journey as a testament to the positive impact of your efforts in empowering young individuals and helping them achieve their dreams.
With utmost respect and appreciation
Adel."
I would say, "Utmost respect to you dear Adel." Thank you for pausing on your journey to show us appreciation. Our life here is hard, and it’s words of encouragement such as these, that give us all the motivation to push through and continue.
Thank YOU, Adel for your word in season.
