Muhaned was devastated when he returned to the ashes of his refugee tent and found his beloved camera in barely recognisable pieces. An aspiring young photographer, he spent many hours capturing the life and times of his fellow refugees at the Shariya Camp in Northern Iraq.
On June 4th a horrific fire swept through much of the camp, with 250 families losing their tents and belongings to the blaze. 7 years after the genocide that brought them to this place, it was a shock and tragedy that shook many survivors to the bone.
MOVED TO TEARS BY A NEW CAMERA
The depth of Muhaned's loss was apparent to Springs of Hope staff, who knew that the only way to soothe the pain in such a trying time was to replace his precious item. The young photographer was moved to tears by the gift, and immediately returned to his creative passion, capturing the hope rising from the ashes of the fire.
